This week Team "Wolfpack" visited a historic cottage on Fort Myers beach. It was an stimulating experience. We learned about the lifestyle of the people that lived there not too long ago, and also some historic facts.
Cesar: "It's sad how things have changed in such short period of time, I hope this presentation will impact others like it impacted me and take action towards a more sustainable environment".
Joe: "I enjoyed the field trip to the Estero island, especially the intro of the area. My family is originally from this area, they worked as commercial fisherman, so I thought it was cool for her to talk about about the way things used to be"
Katie: "This was an interesting field trip because it allowed us to see the changes Florida has gone through over the years. We learned that we have driven a lot of native animals away because of us taking over the land and not taking care of it. We were in one of the only two original cottages left on the island. We also went on a self guided tour through the Matanzas Pass Preserve. Unfortunately we did not see any animals but we were able to as a group explore the preserve and try to identify the plants on our own. "
After the presentation, we were able to take a short journey around the "Matanzas" trail, and explore different native plants and animals.
Here's a slide show of some of the plants and animals we came across:
