Week 5

This week Team "Wolfpack" presented Chapter 4 of the Plan B textbook, Stabilizing Climate: An Energy Efficiency Revolution. WIn the presentation, Team "Wolfpack" described different ways to be energy-efficient and how the new technology can contribute to saving energy.
Zero-Carbon Buildings

Cesar: "I found this chapter very useful, I actually took time this weekend to change all my lightbulbs in my house to the energy-efficient LED lightbulbs, and am looking more into getting a standby power reducer soon"

Other presentations included: Selling our Future, Population Pressure: Land and Water, and Climate Change and the Energy Transition

Vanessa: "I personally learned about the updating of the automobile industry in relation to sustainability. Since 2008 companies have been introducing hybrid and electric run cars and in the near future we will be using them permanently."
After the presentations, Team Wolfpack watched "The power of  Community", it describe how Cuba dealt with peak oil crisis in the early 90's.
.

Joe: "I found the video on how Cuba handled energy crisis to be inspiring. I felt like it showed that when everyone works together, change can be possible. For us here in the US, Im afraid something drastic like this would have to happen to get us to change our wasteful ways."

Katie: "This movie is about how the country banded together during the “special period” after the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991. Cuba was suffering from a major oil set back and this movie showed how they were able deal with their oil setback and find new energy sources. The country also lost 85 percent of its trade economy with the fall of the USSR. This film showed us how peak oil effected their transportation, agriculture, and medicine. This is an eye opener of what could happen to us if we don’t start to reduce our use of oil and find other alternatives to oil to supply our energy in this country."
